Traditional flat archival materials are the best candidates for Sourcery scans, such as typed or handwritten papers, photographs, or ephemera.

At this time Sourcery does not offer scans of bound books, microfilm, or copies of audio or video files.

Reference-quality images of objects are best requested from the holding institution.

We love interlibrary loan (ILL) services! Most archival materials do not circulate, and are only accessible at the holding institution. If your materials are only available onsite and you are not able to make the trip, then a Sourcery request can retrieve the materials for you.

You are always welcome to request scans directly from an institution. If they do not have the capacity, or do not offer to return scans, then Sourcery can be another option. Better yet, ask the institution to join Sourcery so they receive a copy of the scans made by the Sourcerer.

All requests placed to Sourcery cost $65 at our introductory rate. At this time, the Sourcerer receives 90% of this fee and Sourcery retains 10% to cover transaction fees and develop the service. Our generous funding from the Mellon Foundation allows us to experiment with pricing and iterate as we seek a path to sustainability to maintain the platform

Sourcery is developed by Greenhouse Studios, a digital humanities incubation hub based out of the University of Connecticut, in collaboration with Digital Scholar, the same non-profit behind Omeka, Zotero, and Tropy.
